Converge Gallery is excited to present it’s first, ever juried exhibition, “Selfie.” Back in April, artists were asked to find a way to redefine the self portrait in their own image in any form of media. The show will feature over 40 different pieces from local, national, and international artists. Of the accepted works, there will be sculpture, three-dimensional pieces, drawing, printmaking, film, digital, and silver gelatin photography, woodblock printing, collage, live performance and other mixed media. The exhibition opening will be held on Friday, June 3rd from 6-9pm with the award ceremony taking place at 7:30pm. Many of the artists and their families will be in attendance during the opening. The exhibition runs from June 3rd – July 16th, 2016.
This is the first juried exhibition hosted by Converge Gallery and the group was very pleased to have received over 140 entries. The money raised from the artists’ entry fee will go to the 3 top artists with the best scores from the jury panel. The gallery appreciates everyone’s contribution. It takes a lot of time and energy to put this kind of show together and every little bit helps. Because of the show’s success, the gallery will continue to host more like it in the future. Everyone is encouraged to consider submitting again for next year’s juried exhibition.
As a thank you to all of the artists who submitted, Converge Gallery is pleased to announce that all of the submissions that did not get into the show will be featured on a special page on their website at, convergegallery.com/selfie. It was difficult for the members of the gallery and jury to turn down so many great works. The gallery only holds around 30-50 pieces max. So, there was simply not enough space to display everything. The website is a great way to pay respects to the artists and give them the recognition they deserve. Converge Gallery is grateful for all of the support!
Because First Friday in June will be themed, “Self-portraits,” there will be a second chance for artists to show their work at the North Central PA Regional sidewalk art show and sale! It will take place on First Friday, June 3rd 2016 from 5pm to 9pm on the sidewalks of downtown Williamsport, PA.
