Local artist Liz Parrish and CG Projects are excited to announce the release of a new catalog of works in conjunction with Liz’s solo exhibition “Ghosts in the Smoke”. The 40 page, full-color catalog features interviews and essays with the artist and beautifully rendered photos of the works on display in the CG Projects gallery space. The catalog sells for $20 and is also available on Amazon.com. This is the second catalog that the team from CG Projects has released for area artists.

“Due to Parrish’s popularity, we felt a catalog of her work was a good fit. Often times we’ll see gallery patrons upset that they couldn’t take home one of her works as it had sold previously on the opening night. This book gives everyone a chance to take some of Parrish’s art home to share with their friends and family,” stated CG Projects owner John Yogodzinski.

In order to celebrate the release of this new publication, CG Projects will be hosting a special book signing event on Thursday, September 25th at 6PM. Liz Parrish will be available to sign the book and answer any questions that viewers may have about the works on display. The book signing will also serve as a closing reception for the exhibition which runs until Saturday, September 27th.

About Ghosts in the Smoke

The works on display are a combination of story-telling, magical thinking, irrelevance, imagination, and humor. The feeling of the artist to be “watched by things” is what connects the different creatures, half human and half animals, half alive and half dead, that are typical of her imagery to reality. Ghosts, demons and other supernatural entities hidden behind the veil of thin air constitute the fulcrum of this discussion about art, memory, symbolism, dream, perception and even psychology. The references that can be easily identified in this body of works are suspended between ancient art, the figures that populate the margins of the medieval illuminated manuscripts and a reinterpretation of the modern illustrations of fairy tales. The implied suggestions in her work are meant to strike the subconscious of the viewer.

Liz Parrish

The art of Williamsport, PA, resident Liz Parrish is characterized by playfully rendered animal hybrids that are strange as well as comic. After years of work, Parrish has refined the contours of her half-real, half-imagined creatures to tap into the essence of what makes a person care about an animal. Despite the cartoonish elements of her work, there’s an immediate connection to the real world, whether it’s through the several incarnations of her almost mythologized household cats or the sometimes war-like, cannibalistic, and mischievous content in her scenes.
